Job Summary:
This occupation involves the driving and operating of a concrete mixer truck in delivering concrete as directed, checking concrete for quality before leaving the plant and during the placement at the project site, and always maintaining courteous public and customer relations. Service Greasman involves lubricating, oiling, fueling and general servicing of stationary or mobile equipment and concrete batch plants. Primary area of focus will be ready-mix mobile fleet, stationary equipment and concrete batch plants. Works under the direction of dispatchers, batch plant operators, Concrete and Shop Division supervisors. Must have a CDL B License in good standing and a DOT valid medical certificate. This position requires ready-mix driver to perform additional duties such as labor work and other utility related job functions. This position will not be included in the driver rotation.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. A CDL Class B license with two years truck driving experience. Preference given for experience driving a ready-mix truck. Must maintain medical card and acceptable driving record. 2. General education, grammar and arithmetic, GED or high school diploma or equivalent 3. Basic knowledge of world events and acceptable interpersonal communication skills 4. Must be self-motivated, team-player with excellent interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations and act courteous and respectful toward others. 5. Must have basic servicing tools. 6. Must perform additional duties such as labor work and other utility related job functions. 7. Must become a member of the ILWU Local 142.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Valid Class A or B license 2. Knowledge of ready-mix properties 3. Fully vaccinated for COVID-19. 4. Two years truck driving experience. 5. Preference given for experience driving a ready-mix truck
Additional Information
Mixer Driver 1. Perform daily truck inspections. DOT pre & post operational checks to include checking oil, water, fuel levels, light & braking systems and tires to ensure safe equipment operation. 2. Report needed repairs and any unsafe condition or mechanical defect of truck on a daily basis using DOT daily vehicle condition report. 3. Daily maintenance of equipment. 4. Drives truck under loading hopper to receive sand, gravel, cement and water and starts mixer adjusting ready mix to proper slump, rinsing downloading area and cleaning off material spilled on outside of drum. 5. Receives a batched load of concrete materials from batch plant or transfer unit, checks load for conformance with sales invoice on aggregate type & size, proper slump and load size before leaving the plant and during the placement at the project site. 6. Drives truck equipped with auxiliary concrete mixer to deliver concrete mix to job sites. 7. Checks size of load and determine correct hydraulic pressure setting on Booster Axle for proper load distribution and safety. 8. Takes proper precaution in the operation of vehicle to compensate for the high center of gravity and use good judgement in determining speed, angle and stability when encountering “X” hazardous terrain. 9. Drives truck to location for unloading, attaches chutes then unloads concrete 10. Cleans truck after delivery to prevent concrete from hardening in mixer and on truck, using water hose or (where applicable) hazardous materials including hydrochloric or muriatic acid. Cleans out concrete buildup in drum when required. 11. Recognize surroundings and practice traffic awareness to maintain a safe environment. Drives and operates truck in a safe and responsible manner, observing all traffic codes and conform to established Federal and State regulations. 12. Will collect cash on C.O.D. sales while following established procedures. 13. Assists mechanics or other tradesperson on emergency repairs. 14. Clean and maintain truck. 15. Add value-added supplies, such as fiber as needed. 16. Make contact with customer on job site for unloading instructions and secure signature on load invoice. 17. Adjust slump to contractor’s requirements and note changes made to the product and any weather and environmental conditions on the load ticket for quality assurance. 18. Ensure proper use of truck tracking software. 19. Be able to work without direct supervision. 20. Work with central dispatch or plant person for daily schedule 21. Secure (lock) truck appropriately on job site and at end of shift (where applicable) 22. May be required to work extra hours, weekends, holidays, or nights. 23. Report information accurately and completely on daily timecards and other needed paperwork. 24. Maintain proper information in truck cab and perform daily housekeeping in truck cab. 25. Ensure OSHA, DOT, EPA, DNR, MSHA, Federal, State, and Local safety and environmental regulation compliance including attending training. 26. Must be able to lift a 40 lb. chute minimum 8 times a day. Employee must also be able to climb up and down the rear pedestal ladder minimum 6 times per day. 27. This position requires additional duties such as labor type work to help other departments as needed. Position will help maintain a clean and safe work environment in the shop, bone yard, ready-mix and quarry departments. Position will not be included in the driver rotation. Employee is expected to perform additional duties prior to being required to deliver concrete. This position is not intended to take away work already being performed by current employees such as those who clean, maintain and service batch plants. Anticipated start time for this position will be between 8:00 – 9:00am M-F. Start time will be adjusted as dictated by business or determined by management. 28. Position will not be included in the driver rotation. 29. Performs other duties as assigned. 30. Must always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, process, and behaviors. Service/Greaseman 1. Checks, fills and/or changes fuel, lubricants, coolants, filters, etc., as directed on all stationary machinery or mobile equipment. 2. Experience required. 3. May drive or operate equipment as required for servicing. 4. Assists other tradesmen as necessary. 5. Uses hand and power tools common to the trades, such as wrenches, grease guns, etc. 6. Reports unsafe conditions and mechanical defects on equipment. 7. Prepares necessary reports including record of equipment or machinery serviced. 8. Receives a batched load of concrete materials from a batch plant or transfer unit, checks load for conformance with sales invoice on aggregate type and size, proper slump and load size and make delivery as directed. 9. Checks size of load and determine correct hydraulic pressure setting on Booster Axle for proper load distribution and safety. 10. Takes proper precaution in the operation of vehicle to compensate for the high center of gravity and use good judgment in determining speed and angle when encountering "X" terrain. 11. Drives and operates a truck in a safe and responsible manner, observing all traffic codes and conform to established Federal and State regulations. 12. Will collect cash on C.O.D. sales while following established procedures. 13. Performs pre and post operational checks to include checking oil, water and fuel levels, check all light systems, braking system and tires to ensure safe equipment operation. 14. Reports any unsafe condition or any mechanical defect of his truck on a daily basis using the D.O.T. daily vehicle condition report. 15. Responsible for the cleanliness and proper appearance of the truck, drum and service bay. Cleans out concrete buildup in drum when required. 16. Must be able to lift a 40lb chute multiple times a day. Employee must also be able to climb up and down the rear pedestal ladder multiple times a day. 17. Performs other related duties as required. 18. Performs night shift and weekend work.
