Job Summary:
Responsible for making our #1 critical success factor, safety first, a priority in all tasks and activities performed by self and all others involved. Under limited supervision performs work requiring extensive automotive, hydraulic system and mechanical knowledge in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and construction equipment. Must have own hand tools to ¾” drive.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Diagnoses, rebuilds and repairs vehicles and equipment to include maintaining and repairing utility construction equipment including, but not limited to, dump trucks, backhoes, equipment trailers, digger derricks, manlifts, truck mounted cranes, directional drills, etc.
2. Orders replacement parts and cleans and lubricates parts.
3. Requisitions new parts and equipment.
4. Performs BIT inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
5. Travel to jobsites to repair equipment.
6. Prepares and maintains records and reports.
7. May act as lead person in supervisor’s absence.
8. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
9. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
10. This position is required to drive.
11. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Educational and experience requirements include: Five years of experience and/or training in vehicle/construction equipment repair and maintenance shop or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must have safe driving record and a valid driver’s license according to legal requirements.

KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Considerable knowledge of methods, materials, tools and techniques used in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance. Familiar with mechanical design and fabrication. Experience with electrical systems, including computerized induction/ignition systems. Skills include use of power and hand tools, use of diagnostic equipment and experience with operation of vehicles and equipment for diagnostic purposes. Must have experience with Caterpillar, John Deere, Backhoes, Skid Steers, Rollers and Dump trucks. Experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical automotive, air and hydraulic brake systems, trailer electric brakes basic welding and metal fabrication.
