Motor Grader Operator

Job Summary:
Knife River – American Fork Division is seeking hard-working, qualified, and responsible individuals to safely operate self-propelled grader to spread and level dirt, gravel and stone to grade specification in construction maintenance and earthwork structures such as highways, streets, airports, dikes and temporary roads.

Duties and/or Responsibilities
1. Perform daily equipment walk around and site inspections to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained.

2. Safely and properly perform maintenance (lubricating, fueling and cleaning) on blade/motor grader.

3. Safely and properly operate blade/motor grader (including starting engine, moving levers.)Drives grader and moves levers to regulate height and angle of grader blade, lower scarifier and loosens packed soil to permit grading and to tilt front wheels of grader when making sharp turns. Drives grader in successive passer over working area, observing reference stakes or hand signals of assisting worker, to level surface to specified grade. Feels level and listens to sound of engine to determine depth of cut. May perform fine or rough grading.

4. Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations. Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations & act courteous/respectful of others.

5. Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.) Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors.

6. Ensure OSHA, EPA, DNR safety and environmental regulation compliance.

7. Frequently working in an environment with: Loud noises, need for Near and Far Acuity
Occasionally working in an environment with: Standing, Squatting, Climbing, Feeling, Fingering and need for Depth Perception and Color Vision
Constantly working in an environment with: Head Movement/Rotation, Reaching, Handling and Exposure to varying elements of all weather conditions

8. While performing daily tasks may be required to sit, climb and/or lift up to 20-50# occasionally, 10-25# frequently and up to 10# constantly

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
1.Reasoning ability equivalent to a level of applying commonsense understanding and carrying out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions. Dealing with problems involving a few concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
2.Vocabulary ability equivalent to a level of passive vocabulary. Speak clearly and distinctly.
3.Mathematical ability equivalent to adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing all units of measure including decimal fractions. (The position may require different actual mathematical applications.)
4.Ability to provide and maintain proper licensure, and acceptable driving record.
