Laborer - Maintenance of Way

Job Summary:

Responsible for general track repairs including but not limited to replacing rail, ties, spreading rock, vegetation control, and snow removal.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

Follow direction and accomplish assigned tasks within time standards with minimal supervision
Use a variety of tools safely and proficiently, including, but not limited to: pneumatic and hydraulic tools, grinders, jacks, cutting torches, general hand tools and drills
Assist team members with completing their tasks, varying by the tasks at hand
Good housekeeping of all machines and work area
Learn, comprehend, and apply all new hire, safety, and on-the-job training.
Learn, comprehend, and apply FRA and company requirements
Interact professionally with crew members and management in a team environment
Comply with all safety policies
Ensure TM Track Machines are kept in good quality. Other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Driver’s License required
Must be able to qualify as valid worker under FRA standards.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the following physical abilities:

Frequently sit; walk, stand; use hands and fingers to touch, handle, or feel and; reach with hands and arms.
Occasionally climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell; and talk or hear.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Certain job tasks may require you to wear a half mask respirator in which you will need to meet the osha guidelines based on 1910.134(g)(1)(i).

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:

Wet and/or humid conditions.
Moving mechanical parts
Outside weather conditions.
The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

A strong mechanical aptitude is highly desired.
Ability to operate a front end loader and/or a forklift is preferred.
General knowledge of hand tools and general maintenance practices, such as but not limited to, greasing, checking fluids, fixing air leaks, etc. is highly desired.
Typical hours during Production Season is 7am-6pm M-F. Maybe 1 Saturday a month. Typical hours during Maintenance Season is 7am-3pm M-F. No Saturdays expected.
