Transportation Manager

Job Summary:
To manage the hiring, curriculum development, training & staffing levels for the DOT positions of the operation and ongoing management of DOT drivers (including feedback, coaching, discipline, etc. as needed).
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Knowledgeable of DOT regulations
2. Minimum 5 years’ experience in Training & Development, curriculum development experience preferred
3. Minimum 10 years managerial experience
4. Knowledge of all types of truck driving requirements
5. Ability to provide and maintain proper CDL licensure, medical card and acceptable driving record

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Project and source required personnel for driving positions across all product lines
2. Provide input to Regional Fleet Manager on projecting future needs of fleet
3. Recommend starting pay rates for incoming drivers
4. Recruit, interview, test and extend job offers for all trucking positions
5. Oversee trainer positions
6. ITO contracts - review historical contracts, analyze new and upcoming requirements, establish a median rate, then produce an
improved contract and pay rate schedule
Provide management and coaching of DOT driving positions

1. Remain current on all DOT regulations
2. Develop & maintain curriculum for Knife River to have a certified driver training program in accordance with Federal DOT regulations
3. Provide guidance in developing the training programs as needed
4. Conduct driver training (classroom and/or behind the wheel) as needed
5. Conduct needed road tests and driver behind the wheel training

1. Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations. Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations & act courteous/respectful of others.
2. Ensure OSHA,MSHA, EPA, DNR, DOT, safety and environmental regulation compliance
3. Performs other duties as assigned.
