Sr. Estimator

Job Summary:
Responsible for making our #1 critical success factor, safety first, a priority in all tasks and activities performed by self and all others involved. Promote On Electric Group’s Core Values, safety culture and Continuous Process Improvement (CPI). Provide technical estimating support to construction projects from bid preparation through job close out documentation to the customer.

Coordinate estimating resources with project managers. Review invitations to bid and work with managers to determine projects to bid. See flow chart

Track bid results in pipeline and tracking spread sheets.

Coordinate bid closing team and participate when available.

1. On specific projects bid by Estimator, the following are his responsibilities:
A. Start estimate file with estimate number.
B. Obtain list of all generals
C. Obtain all addenda’s.
D. Contact utility companies (telephone and power).
E. Visit site (if required).
F. Attend walk through (if required)
G. Review specifications including general conditions. If contract is included with bid documents forward contract to operations before starting takeoff.
H. Review bid form and other breakdown requirements before starting the takeoff. Call the owner/general for clarifications, if necessary.
I. Bonding requirement – submit bond request form as soon as possible before bid date.
J. Determine job duration (time) requirements for any phases and overall job.
K. Determine liquidated damages.
L. Obtain Market Recovery (if available).
M. Contact suppliers necessary for specialty items (fixtures, sitework, subcontracts, etc.)
N. Complete take-off and estimate with all contacts, special conditions, deviations, etc., on documents. The job take-off needs to be consistent. Phasing/benchmarking.
O. Permits, taxes, fees (heating, fire alarm, etc.)
P. Close bid with designated Vice President or President. (Bid Close Checklist)
Q. Follow with bids in writing to generals or awarding authority.
R. If in the running, then follow-up with written proposal to low general, if proposal was not written at bid time.

2. Estimate projects complete with designated margins. Work to make your estimates easily usable for cost to complete and phasing.

Designated margins - who makes the decisions on margins. (What determines margins) this varies, depends on the customer, job, etc. Markups are determined by Market Area. Minimum markups are established. Any changes in markups must be done with the Market Matrix Manager.

3. Prepare and update bid file showing competition and competitive price levels and square foot pricing man-hours for future use.

4. Review contracts or subcontracts of projects bid to coincide with what you bid to generals or owners, then send to President or Manager.

5. Attend company meeting with update of prospective projects or current status of projects in-house. * Attend monthly estimator meetings for information. Volunteer innovative ideas and systems to make overall company coordination smoother, more enjoyable, and more profitable.

6. Prior to beginning bid, coordinate with Field Superintendent to make sure field resources are reasonably available (especially Foreman or GF).

7. Closeouts
Printout the following for closeouts:
a. Extensions
b. All summary sheets(be sure to show duration of job,, manpower loading)
c. Phasing report (breakdown by phase).

8. The “Estimating & Matrix Manager” must be present at all bid closings over $100K.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires the knowledge of electrical construction and theory at a level normally acquired through the completion of an electrical training program. Five years’ experience as electrical estimator. Demonstrated experience with Accubid. Accubid Enterprise or Livecount preferred.

Excellent human relations skills and ability to maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated conceptual estimates and financial analytical skills. Excellent oral and written communications skills.

1. Electrical apprenticeship, journeyman, wireman, project foremen/ general foreman, mentorship.
2. Construction management degree, OEG mentorship.
3. Estimator/Project supervisor, ORG mentorship
Background and drug screen required.
