Job Summary:
The construction manager plans, coordinates and directs the construction activities of the company. The manager, under the direction of the General Manager, works with superintendents, field personnel, internal department managers, owners & subcontractors to bid and complete construction projects safely, efficiently while monitoring costs to complete with assigned project managers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school or GED equivalent required.
- 4 years degree in construction, engineering or business or the combination of education and experience.
- 5 plus years of progressively responsible management positions in a construction company setting. Road construction exposure highly desirable. TXDOT experience a plus. Familiarity with HCSS, Heavy Job & Heavy Bid is desirable.
Duties and/or Responsibilities:
- Partnering with safety professional, develop, train and support safe practices and policies. Hold direct reports accountable for advancing a world class safety culture. Participate in safety review of scheduled projects, post-accident review when necessary and management response to programs or policies when needed (i.e. drug testing, proper PPE, use of tools and equipment, etc.).

- Partnering with estimating staff, review and advise on potential construction projects.
- Develop, change and monitor construction project master calendar.
- Meet weekly with estimating and superintendents for advance planning of upcoming projects including construction challenges, schedule changes, sub-contractors, prime-contractor issues.
- Work with superintendents to order necessary construction materials as outlined by project plans.
- Work with staff to maintain processes and systems to provide effective work flow information, crew and equipment movement information etc.

Project Management
- Meet daily with superintendents for progress update from field.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and General Superintendent on formulating cost efficient methods to complete projects.
- Meet with vendors, sub-contractors, owners/customers to provide project information as needed.
- Anticipate and lead superintendents on changing field activities as a result of adjustments to sequencing or scheduling, weather delays, city/county/state utility hookups, etc.
- Work with superintendents on staffing plan, operator and or crew assignments.
- Develop/submit with help of Project managers any change orders or additional work orders for processing.
- Approve purchase orders for all construction supplies and materials.

- Hire, develop, lead assess performance, maintain morale and manage the superintendents and field Foreman. Address any employee concerns efficiently and lawfully.
- Communicate construction business status effectively with General Manager.
- Work with staff & crews appropriately, deal with any discipline or rule violations and document as necessary.
- Provide continuous feedback to direct reports and complete annual performance review of same.
- Under direction of General Manager, develop, monitor and update annual financial plans. Monitor monthly progress of WIP schedules, materials/volumes actuals as compared to plan and ensure accurate updates are posted in accounting software for projected cost and revenue at completion for each construction project on the WIP schedule.
- Advise all stakeholders of project status, significant change to schedules, working conditions in field.
- Insure superintendents and project managers complete all necessary paperwork to receive payment for work.

- Participate in any company, region or corporate activities as needed.
- Support and participate in any special projects as requested/directed by General Manager.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
- Strong knowledge base of construction techniques and required equipment and material applications.
- Intermediate computer software skills including use of project management, scheduling estimating and business applications.
- Job requires steady to intermittent physical activity including: sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and walking, sometimes on uneven ground. Job requires the ability to see, hear and use critical reasoning.
